On The Road Again

Adelaide was a worthwhile pit stop especially given the Fringe Festival and surrounding wine regions.  However, as a friend mentioned it really doesn’t stack up compared to Melbourne….but, what does?  Nonetheless, the laid back mood to the city was a nice hiatus from being on the road and the whirlwind pace from my initial landing locale provided.  I still can’t get over that the city virtually shuts down at 5p essentially turning the place into a ghost town.  In addition, Sunday everything is more or less closed.    How is this place the serial killer capital of the world when there is no prey for the predators? BTW, local government just ruled on eliminating smoking in all public areas including alfresco restaurants, bus shelters and parks.

The hostel I had was very good.  It was clean and offered tremendous privacy especially with the private room.  The community was a very mature audience, which I prefer.  Of course, I was a hermit most of the time I was there.  I should really get over my timid ways, but it’s hard to break a lifelong habit.  I reckon I’ll have baptism by fire in Sydney beyond my first few days.

A tremendous gratitude goes out to Mardi from Melbourne for assisting my plight in securing accommodations in Sydney.  As a man of leisure, one tends to sway a little more towards the procrastination side of the scale.  Everywhere in Sydney was full from hostels to hotels and all places in between, which is understandable given the Mardi Gras celebrations taking over the city.

Although costs are much higher than I would like them to be, it is the price to pay for a last minute booking and dealing with an event profile as aforementioned.  Nevertheless, it would seem silly to be in this part of the world and not partake in one of the world’s most acclaimed festivals.  I booked a flight on Virgin Blue and I am set to be on my way.
