Time is on my Side

I wasn’t feeling too inspired today despite it being a more prototypical summer day with low wind, low humidity, clear skies and a temperature hovering around 23C.  Beach!

I drifted down to St. Kilda Beach to flop out on the sand.  Surprisingly there were a slew of folks for early Monday afternoon.  Thankfully there were some other pale folks needing a tan like me, so I wasn’t too out of place aside from being on the out of shape side.  Seemingly there are no ugly or fat people here. They must deny them at customs or have a secret culling that no one dare utter aloud.

After a couple hours of rays, I grabbed the bike for a ride.  I headed down the shores of South Melbourne, Melbourne Port Lands and Beacon’s Cove.  Although I haven’t sauntered into too many urban neighbourhood dwellings I think I would be hard pressed to find one that I would want to call home like the abodes erected along this shoreline.

The strip faces the ocean with mostly mid-rise development and single detached homes constructed with a contemporary flare whilst integrating the historic Edwardian and Victorian structures rife throughout Melbourne. The area reminded me a little of Santa Monica without the grandeur of expansive homes. It also lacked more extensive cafes and restos, but there were still some nice looking places for bites and libations.

Equipped with groceries I whipped together a nice summer salad for dinner, featuring sweet chili chicken over mixed greens with red onion, cherry tomato and avocado dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette accompanied by a couple of glasses of Elderton 2009 Cab. By far the best meal I’ve had since I’ve been here, which begs the question…why haven’t I been cooking more?
