Lost in the Supermarket

It was a blistering 30C today.  It begged for another day at the beach.  After a couple of hours of tanning, I returned home to have lunch as I whipped together a tasty julienne salad.

I was primed to head for an early evening bike ride, but it seems I have a slow leak in the front tire.  There is a Vuleta store down the street where I pumped the tire yesterday, but it was now past their trading hours.  Damn.  I’ll take care of that tomorrow and patch the tire with my kit I brought from home where I can see a small gash.

It’s my last night here at 62 Grey, so I stopped at the Post to grab a shipping box to send some my belongings back home.  I haven’t yet segregated items, but I’ll do that after this post or more likely take advantage of my late check-out and deal with it in the morning.  Bless procrastination. After all I’m on vacay time, plus I’m polishing off the rest of the Cab.

I got refreshed to head out to the night market at QV Market.  What a scene!  It was packed with people, open air drinking and numerous food venders.  It is everything the Harbourfront Summer Festival Series wish it was.  Did I mention there were people?  This must be a great excuse to have a mid-week drunk for local Melbournians.

I grabbed a bottle of Boag’s Blonde, so far the best brew I’ve had and ambled around the market.  There were a number of merchants selling their wares, but nothing that struck my eye.  The rich aromas of eats were getting to me, so I stopped by an organic curry Caribbean hawker.  Two styles of curry, chutney, mini roti and a carrot/cashew padoka for $10. Tasty goodness.

It was time to check out the featured music act King Marong & Afro Mandinko. The set was great, like attending a big jam session, Turning Point style.  People randomly dancing in the market, how could one not join in? Fun.  I recommend downloading at least the first 2 free tracks off the link above.  This experience only epitomized how much Melbournians are culturally enriched, love to dance, sing and drink.  Somehow I think the rest of Oz pales in comparison and it sure isn’t good ‘ol conservative Hogtown.
